Lha Observed World AIDS Day 2015
On December 1, Dharamshala community witnessed series of events to observe World AIDS Day with the theme of ‘Getting to Zero’ at the main square of Mcleog Ganj.
The various HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns such as street procession, free blood test, distribution of pamphlets and condoms, group song, skit performance and awareness talks were jointly organised by Lha Chartiable Trust, Delek Hospital and Dharamshala Rotary Club.
Dr Tenzin Dasel from Delek Hospital gave a HIV/AIDS awareness talk in the afternoon at the Tibetan Settlement office hall.
Apart from many locals and tourists gathered at the event, the President, Secretary and the former President of Dharamshala Rotary Club and the Director of the Delek Hospital were also present throughout the events with Lha’s students, volunteers and staff members.
The programs and activities were great success as we were able to reach hundreds of people through the mentioned events. There were around 40 people who came for free blood test for HIV/AIDS. We also distributed brochures in three different languages: Tibetan, English and Hindi about precaution and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
World AIDS Day is observed every year to commemorate those who have died from the disease and campaigns to support those who are suffering from the deadly disease and to make a collective effort to prevent new infections with an aim of creating an AIDS-free generation. This year’s World AIDS Day theme is “Getting zero: Zero new infection, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS related Death.”
