Secular Ethics Fellowship Program
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has shared his knowledge and many insights for the benefit of the entire race of human being. Amongst this knowledge and guidance, Secular Ethics and Universal Responsibility are highly recognized and revered by people all over the world. Especially in western countries, people have shown significant interest in Secular Ethics through the many research programs and studies on the subject. However, in comparison with western countries, few Tibetans have attempted to study Secular Ethics. With help from the Tibet Fund, we would like to announce a one-year research fellowship program on Secular Ethics. The aim of the program is to measure the practical application of the doctrine in Tibetan society today. The fellowship program is funded by the Tibet Fund, USA.
Requirements for Applicants:
- The researcher must have an excellent knowledge of written and oral Tibetan language. The researcher must also believe in the vision of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tibetan culture, and tradition. Along with this, he or she must have a strong sense of how to conduct research methodology.
- The researcher should have a Bachelors degree from a recognized University or equivalent degree. The researcher must work independently in writing the thesis. Additionally, the researcher should have an adequate knowledge of the English Language.
- Special consideration will be given to those who have studied the Five Major Treatises and have excellent Tibetan written skills as well as adequate English language skills.
Research topics and responsibilities
- The researcher must study the vision of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Secular Ethics thoroughly and should do in-depth research on how to implement Secular Ethics into the modern system of education.
- To study the methods of how to implement Secular Ethics in Tibetan Schools as per the vision of the Basic Education Policy of the Department of Education, the Central Tibetan Administration.
- By collaborating with members of the Department of the Education of The Central Tibetan Administration, Tibetan school principals, teachers, and trainers of workshops and education, the researcher should have knowledge of teaching methodology for Secular Ethics and how to implement this to uphold and promote the decline of – Tibetan Cultural values in Tibetan schools.
- Conduct discussions and interviews with experts and scholars of Secular Ethics regarding the methods of implementation and application of the doctrine in Tibetan society.
- To maintain a firm relationship and follow the advice of our Expert Committees and to submit a 100-page report on their findings and recommendations within the 12 month research period.
- The researcher must show they have a commitment to becoming an activist of Secular Ethics and a trainer when the research period is completed.
Other requirements of the fellowship, selection procedure, and benefits
- The selection of the researcher will be done through examination only. The selected researcher will be required to work in the office for half-day daily. For the remaining time, she or he will be expected to be interviewing people in the locale and doing research.
- Monthly salary is 22,000 Rupees. Additionally, a travel allowance will be paid separately.
- Any necessary equipment and gadgets will be provided.
- Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae (CV), along with a Personal Statement declaring why they want to apply for the fellowship.
- A No Objection Certificate (NOC) should be submitted along with the application if the candidate is currently working.
- A copy of the applicant’s Green Book (GB), declaring that Volunteering Taxes have been paid, and a Residential Certificate (RC) should be submitted along with the application.
- A Medical Fitness Certificate from a recognized hospital should be attached along with the application.
- Any degree certificates or relevant experience certificates of Secular Ethics should be included with the application.
- Closing date for applications is 27th April 2018. Applications sent after the deadline will not be considered.
