The Lha Charitable Trust successfully conducted the Tibetan Students’ Educational Tour Program 2024, hosting twenty students from Jangthang, Ladakh, for a comprehensive nine-day educational initiative. This carefully designed program provided participants aged 14-16 years with immersive exposure to Tibetan governance, cultural heritage, and historical perspectives through strategic visits to key institutions including the Central Tibetan Administration, Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Tibet Museum, and Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute). The academic curriculum encompassed English language instruction, human rights education, democratic principles, and Tibetan language preservation initiatives, while students engaged in meaningful discussions with various Tibetan non-governmental organizations to deepen their understanding of contemporary Tibetan society and governance structures.
The program’s multifaceted approach combined formal education with experiential learning opportunities, including environmental conservation activities through the Clean Upper Dharamshala Programme (CUDP), artistic expression via pottery workshops at Dharamkot Clay Studio, and community engagement sessions with Nishtha NGO and TCV Upper. Spiritual and cultural immersion was facilitated through visits to significant religious institutions such as Norbulingka Institute, Nechung Monastery, and Gyuto Monastery, providing participants with deeper insights into their cultural heritage. The tour concluded with a celebratory farewell lunch and traditional circle dance, successfully equipping students with enhanced cultural awareness, increased confidence, and the knowledge necessary to serve as cultural ambassadors within their home communities, thereby ensuring the continuation of cultural preservation efforts and the sharing of democratic values learned during their transformative educational journey.
