Children from Himalayan regions of India, including Spiti and Ladakh, who come to Dharamshala to attend high school are accommodated in this hostel. The hostel has 250 residents who, until now, have not had access to safe drinking water and the school approached Dharamshala Rotary Club to ask for assistance.

The Australia Tibet Council Group 2017 generously funded this installation and the new facility was opened on February 5.

The Clean Water Project aims to help improve students’ health by providing access to clean water and reducing the incidence of waterborne illnesses. This is the 26th water filtration system installed by Lha and the third in a local Indian school.

The Dharamshala Rotary President, Zonal Chairman and other club members, along with the school’s Director and Principal, were present during the launch of the new system.

Lha’s Clean Water Project was launched in 2010 and since then 26 water filter systems have been installed on different sites throughout northern India. Most of the systems have been placed in schools as well as a monastery, a nunnery, an elderly peoples home and other high-traffic locations. The 25th system was installed at Kamrao Gapa Tibetan Settlement in Himachal Pradesh.
