Student Group from Tulane University, US
Lha is pleased to have been able to host 16 undergraduate students from Tulane University, USA for three weeks from May 31 to June 21 under our Cultural Exchange program. The group led by Mr Micheal Smith was accommodated at Lha’s Ahimsa House. The students from Tulane University visited Dharamsala to explore Tibetan culture and its exile situation.
During their stay, they participated in our Mutual Learning program by partnering with Lha’s language students. The Mutual Learning activity gives opportunity for international students to learn about Tibetan culture, political situation and hear stories of escape and rehabilitation in India while it is a great platform for the Tibetan students to improve his/her English communication skills and also learn about their partner’s tradition and culture.
The students from Tulane University also visited non-governmental organizations and institutes in Dharamsala to understand political and social struggles of Tibetans. The group has been to Bir settlement to know about monasteries and institutes located there.
The group got the opportunity to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and had a short interac tive session with him.
Through this exchange program, the students have been introduced to Tibet’s current political situation, Tibetan culture, tradition and way of life in exile.
