Parents Workshop on Early Literacy Development
Lha charitable Trust and the Institute for Social Work and Education, in collaboration with The Tibet Fund, held a workshop for Tibetan parents, Early Literacy Development.
Around 42 parents of children from Yonling day school and Rogpa Baby Care Centre attended the event which took place on July 5, 2016 in Lha’s Ahimsa Hall.
The workshop was led by Mr Jamyang Gyaltsen, an education specialist and Lha volunteer. He focused on the importance of early child development and strategies for reading and storytelling.
Ms Tenzin Dekyi, M.A in English Literature then led a session, speaking on the importance of parents talking to their children and providing guidance on how parents can generally support or guide their children by having conversations with them.
Parents actively participated throughout the workshop and felt that many of their doubts had been addressed.
The workshop concluded with a distribution of children’s story books in Tibetan and English language, at no cost to participants. Lha would like to take this opportunity to thank The Tibet Fund for organising the event with us; Rogpa and Yongling for informing the parents about the event and Gen Gyaltsen la and Dekyi la for making this event possible.
