New Director
Tsering Wangdue, Lha’s former Volunteer Coordinator and Project Manager, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of Lha Charitable Trust following Dorji Kyi’s resignation from the post from May 31, 2022.
Dorji Kyi has served the organisation as the Executive Director for four years from May 2018 to May 2022. Under her leadership, the organisation has overcome the many challenges experienced during the Covid-19 global pandemic and despite these; we were able to continue our social services work throughout the pandemic in line with our organisation’s mission. Dorji Kyi has built on the projects started by the previous director, Ngawang Rabgyal, and has introduced new initiatives, including the livelihood training programme, scholarship programme, the intensive English language course for Geshes and Khenpos and assisting the small business owners’ programme. Under her leadership, we were able to make a smooth transition when relocating our office from our old address where we have been for over 15 years to our current location, Ahimsa house where we have opened the new Lha Café and restaurant, which contributed to making us self-sustaining and to provide employment opportunities for young Tibetan. Dorji, on behalf of everyone at Lha and its beneficiaries, partners and volunteers, we would like to thank you for your outstanding service, dedication and kindness over the years and wish you every success in your next journey – and if we may, we will continue to seek your support and guidance in the future! Thank you Dorji!
Tsering Wangdue has assumed the post of Lha’s Director effective from June 1, 2022. Tsering Wangdue and Dorji Kyi have worked closely together over the past few months to ensure a smooth handover. Tsering was welcomed to his new post with a humble traditional ceremony.
Tsering joined Lha in 2014 as the Office Secretary and in 2015 was promoted to General Secretary. In 2016, he went to Italy where he gained a Master’s degree in International Relations (European Studies) from the University of Siena. After completing his studies, in 2019, he returned and joined Lha as Volunteer Coordinator and Project Manager.
Tsering was born in Tibet; his schooling was in Tibetan Children’s Village Schools both in Dharamshala and Bylakuppe in south India after coming to exile in 1995.
Tsering’s appointment as the new Director of Lha comes with the utmost approval from both the Board of Advisors and Board of Trustees of Lha. We wish our new Director a wonderful journey of leadership and look forward to working with him in his new capacity.
