Care Group Visits Dharamshala
Lha welcomed a group of twelve professionals from Hospice Care in the United States in October as a part of our cultural exchange programme. They stayed in Mcleod Ganj for more than a week to learn about Tibetan culture and Buddhism, and also to have a closer look at the Tibetan community in Dharamshala. They visited several Tibetan organisations including the Tibet Museum and the Tibet Library.
Geshe Lhakdor la gave a talk to the group Buddhist perspectives on Joy of Living and Dying which gave the participants the opportunity to ask questions and clear many of their doubts on Buddhism.
Lha’s cultural exchange programme was initially started in 2002 with a group of graduate social work students on an international social work exchange to Dharamshala. Since then Lha has facilitated students and professional groups from other countries to give them the opportunity to engage in social work and other projects within the Tibetan refugee and the local Indian communities in Dharamsala. Today the cultural exchange programme has grown and Lha hosts around 15 to 20 groups every year. In addition to the cultural exchange experience, this programme gives much needed support to Tibetan refugees who are learning English inLha language classes.
