16th Clean Water Project at Kham Kathok Tibetan Settlement
On 27th October 2014, Lha installed its 16th Clean Water Project Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification system at Kham Kathok Tibetan Settlement, Satuan.
Kham Kathok Tibetan Settlement, Sataun was established in 1965 with an initial population of 225 and it is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 of Indian Government. This society has been administered by Managing Committee headed by elected President of the society till 1982 but later the administration of the society was handed over to the Central Tibetan Administration and manage by Representative of Central Tibetan Administration.
This settlement is located at the remote Indian village of Sataun and it is at the distance of 16 Kms from nearest town Paonta Sahib of Sirmour Distt, Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at the end of two small valleys and surrounded by low hills. At present they got more than population of 225.
The water purification system is an RO+UV+ UF and TTS, and is considered one of the best systems available in the area. It will provide more than one hundred liters of safe drinking water per hour to the elderly people and the staff. The filtration system includes a stainless steel tank with a five hundred liter holding capacity.
We hope that this water purification system will help to alleviate major waterborne illnesses like typhoid and cholera that residents commonly suffer from in this region, especially during the monsoon season. We believe that this will contribute to maintaining a high level of general health among the residents.
Lha, on the behalf of the residents of Kham Kathok Tibetan Society, would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Tibet Fund, USA for raising funds for the 14th, 15th and 16th water filter projects.
We will be installing two more such systems to mark 2014 as the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. So far around 7080 people have benefited from the Lha Clean Water Project and we are hoping to install more through the help of our generous donors around the globe.
