Lha 14th Clean Water Project

Jampaling 1On 15th October 2014, Lha installed its 14th Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification system as a part of Clean Water Project at Jampaling Old People’s Home, Dharamshala.

Jampaling Old People’s Home was established in 1991 on a plot of land at Lhagyal Ri (behind the main temple of H. H. the Dalai Lama).

Jampaling Home is about fifteen minutes walking distance from the main temple of H.H. the Dalai Lama and around thirty minutes walking distance from main market of Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala. Initially Jampaling Old People’s Home was set up to accommodate seventy five elders.

At present, this home is taking care of total of one hundred and forty eight elderly people and has thirteen staff members.

The resident elders feel themselves very lucky and blessed due to the proximity of their home to the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The water purification system is an RO+UV+ UF and TTS, and is considered one of the best systems available in the area. It will provide more than one hundred liters of safe drinking water per hour to the elderly people and the staff. The filtration system includes a stainless steel tank with a five hundred liter holding capacity.

We hope that this water purification system will help to alleviate major waterborne illnesses like typhoid and cholera that residents commonly suffer from in this region, especially during the monsoon season. We believe that this will contribute to maintaining a high level of general health among the residents.

Lha, on the behalf of the 148 elderly people and 13 staff members of the Jampaling Old People’s Home, would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Tibet Fund, USA for raising funds for the 14th and the upcoming 15th and 16th water filter projects.

We will be installing four more such systems in Tibetan settlement, a nunnery, a monastery and a school before the end of this year to mark 2014 as the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. So far around 6300 people have benefited from the Lha Clean Water Project and we are hoping to install more through the help of our generous donors around the globe.
