On 23rd December 2015, Lha Charitable Trust installed its 24th ‪water‬ purification system at Bir Tibetan Society, as a part of the Lha’s Clean Water Project which was funded by Vietnamese Devotees from USA and Canada.

Bir Tibetan Society is a Tibetan refugee settlement in the Himalayan village of Chowgan on the outskirts of the town of Bir, in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. Bir Tibetan Colony was established in the early 1960s by Chokling Rinpoche following the exile of the Dalai Lama and other refugees from Tibet. Currently there are 1,200 people including the family of Tibetan refugees and local Indian community.

The water purification system is an RO+UV+ UF and TTS, and is considered one of the best systems available in the area. It will provide more than one hundred liters of safe drinking water per hour to the residents and visitors of Bir Tibetan Society. The filtration system includes a stainless steel tank with holding capacity of five hundred litters of water.

We hope that this water purification system will help to alleviate major waterborne illnesses that residents commonly suffer from in this region, especially during the monsoon season. We believe that this will contribute to maintaining a high level of general health among the students and the staff.

So far around 13,753 people have benefited from the ‪Lha‬ Clean Water Project and we will be installing more such systems in the future.
