Dekyiling STS 1On 22nd March 2015 (World Water Day), Lha installed its 18th Reverse Osmosis water purification system as a part of Clean Water Project at Sambhota Tibetan School, Dekyiling to mark the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Sambhota Tibetan School, Dekyiling is located, approximately, 10Kms. Away from Dehradun in Uttarakhand State. It was started on 1st June, 1982 with the aim of providing education for the children of Tibetan refugees re-located from Bhutan. Today it has classes from pre-primary to 8th grade.

Dekyiling STS 2The school was formally inaugurated on November 20, 1983 by the then Home Minister of Uttarakhand in the presence of many dignitaries from the CTA Dharamsala. At present, the school is taking care of one hundred and seventy nine students and thirty staff members.

The water purification system is an RO+UV+ UF and TTS, and is considered one of the best systems available in the area. It will provide more than one hundred liters of safe drinking water per hour to the school children and the staff. The filtration system includes a stainless steel tank with holding capacity of five hundred litters of water.

Dekyiling STS 3We hope that this water purification system will help to alleviate major waterborne illnesses like typhoid and cholera that residents commonly suffer from in this region, especially during the monsoon season. We believe that this will contribute to maintaining a high level of general health among the students and the staff.

2015-03-31 15.14.48Lha, on the behalf of the 179 students and 30 staff members of the Sambhota Tibetan School, Dekyiling would like to extend the deepest appreciation to Lha’s former volunteer Ryan Lockee and his students of 2014-2015 6th grade class of St. Gabriel School San Francisco, CA. U.S for raising funds for Lha’s 18th clean water projects.

Dekyiling STS 4We will be installing more such systems in Tibetan settlement, a nunnery, a monastery and a school in order to provide more safe drinking water. So far around 7474 people have benefited from the Lha Clean Water Project and we are hoping to install more through the help of our generous donors around the globe.
