On 26th October 2014, Lha installed its 15th Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification system as a part of Clean Water Project at Central School for Tibetans Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
Central school for Tibetans earlier known as Tibetan School Society, Chota Shimla came into being in early 1961 when Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala appointed Shri Sonam Topjor Tethong as the first Principal of the school.
he school was later taken over by CTSA on May 5, 1962, during the tenure of Pt. Shyam Narayan, the first Secretary of CTSA which was earlier called Tibetan Schools' Society (TSS). With the arrival of more and more children, the existing accommodation was inadequate. So a branch school was also opened at Earlsfield near St. BedesCollege.
In 1969 the school got itself affiliated to CBSE and in March 1973, the first batch of Higher Secondary School (Class XI) appeared in the All India Secondary School Examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. At present they got 428 students and 52 staff.
The water purification system is an RO+UV+ UF and TTS, and is considered one of the best systems available in the area. It will provide more than one hundred liters of safe drinking water per hour to the elderly people and the staff. The filtration system includes a stainless steel tank with a five hundred liter holding capacity.
We hope that this water purification system will help to alleviate major waterborne illnesses like typhoid and cholera that residents commonly suffer from in this region, especially during the monsoon season. We believe that this will contribute to maintaining a high level of general health among the residents.
Lha, on the behalf of the 428 students and 52 staff members of the Central School for Tibetan Shimla, would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Tibet Fund, USA for raising funds for the 14th, 15th and 16th water filter projects.
We will be installing two more such systems to mark 2014 as the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. So far around 6780 people have benefited from the Lha Clean Water Project and we are hoping to install more through the help of our generous donors around the globe.
Afternoon, Mr.Sangyal Dorjee (editor and translator) briefed the information about lha and Mr. Demay Tsering (health and environment officer) gave presentation on #HIV/AIDS to the students of Central School for Tibetan Shimla. There were more than 150 students, who patiently took part in this awareness talk. The main objective of the talk was to create awareness about the disease concept and how to take preventive measure to avoid it. We also distributed brochures and pamphlet regard with HIV/#AIDS and Environment. #Lha has started this project from the early of this year 2014.
